More details about each item and other useful extras

The Nets :-Keep vegetation from growing into the net by mowing (or spraying/burning or lay down a strip of heavy material e.g. damp course under the net). It is essential to start with the ground beneath the fence well cleared, and good practise to strim or weedkill beneath the fence line regularly to prevent earthing. The Standard mesh nets are fine for large predators and medium birds. The Closemesh option is for protecting birds against the smaller predators or enclosing bantams and growers.

Individual Nets - to add to an existing fence or energiser

  • 25 m close mesh net
  • 50 m standard net
  • 50 m close mesh net
Please contact us for prices for greater numbers of nets.
Each 50m net comes with a Gate post, Corner guys to support corners, Net pegs to pin down the bottom line and a Warning Sign.

Lead out cable is used with a mains powered system (or a battery powered system which is kept indoors). The energiser must be located in a weather proof environment and the cable is then used to link the energiser to the net (via an outdoor switch which is included in the mains kit). Part of the same cable is used to link the energiser to the earth stake, which is normally located just outside of where the energiser is mounted. It needs to be in damp ground to be effective.

Fence Tester (shows various voltage levels) This is essential for fault finding and recommended to be purchased with every kit. Your net should operate at 3000v plus when working effectively; We have a simple 6 light tester and a digital tester available.

Fence Light This is a good reassurance that the light is working effectively, you can see the pulses at night. It is considered to aid as a deterrent, by the warning flashes.

12v Battery :- For best results use a ‘Deep Cycle’ battery (e.g. a Leisure/Caravan/Marine battery) with a minimum output of 30 amp hours for the smaller Energisers and a minimum of 60 amp hours for larger Energisers.
These should last approx. 3-6 weeks between charges. Car batteries are not recommended, they are not designed to be trickle discharged and will let you down.
If you can get 85amp hour plus they are a very worthwhile investment as they last so much longer.

solar charger for electric fence kitsThe Solar Charger - This comprises a 5 watt solar charger which links on to the battery. It continuously trickle charges the battery and will considerably expand the re-charging period (possibly to as much as 9 months between spring to autumns).

12V Deep Cycle Gel Battery [85amp hr 12v] [We can no longer get standard wet acid leisure batteries delivered around the country so can only offer a GEL battery. They are more expensive but very good batteries]. Car batteries do not like the discharge and charging patterns usedin electric fencing but if you can get them really cheap and don't mind more frequent changes then they work okay. The battery we offer should cover you for 6-8 weeks depending on the number of nets

Battery Charger : will charge the 85amp hour battery overnight. So when you need to recharge the battery, you collect it from the fence as you shut your birds in and take it back out fully charged in the morning at letting out time.

More posts may be added to any net to cope with undulating land and net struts can also be added to help keep the net taught. Additional tread in posts - there are 15 included with each 50m net, which includes a spare post to make a gateway at your convenience, but if your ground is particularly undulating or you are very exposed or you are making a lot of changes of direction in your pen design you may want to consider adding some more posts to keep a strong and even tension in the netting. If the area is exposed or uneven, extra posts help keep the net shape and to minimise net sag between posts (in packs of 10). The close mesh netting is heavier so is more likely to need support on awkward ground, so we recommend extra posts for this. As a rule the extra posts will be the double pronged, occassionally demand outstripping supply may require we send single ones.

Fence Testers [to monitor the voltage]. These indicate the pulse voltage and detects earthing and other problems. Voltmeters range from a simple 5 light tester (where lights indicate 5 separate stages of voltage), to a digital volt meter which gives a more accurate measurement. It is highly recommended that you have one of these to maintain your fencing to the highest standard. The 5 light tester is included free with kits of 3 or more nets.

We also have a Fault Finder which is a more complex piece of equipment which points in the direction of earthing problem.

Night Light :- Clips on to the net and flashes at night so you can see whether you have remembered to switch the system on or if you have battery or earthing problems etc. A great reassurance to you - you can simply look out at night to confirm your fence is on and working well.
