CHOOSING YOUR ELECTRIC FENCE : - please read this page carefully and thoroughly. This is an important investment and we want you to get the right kit for your personal situation.
Electric Poultry netting is ideal for containing all types of poultry (including ducks, geese, turkeys etc.) and keeping Predators out (i.e. foxes, dogs, cats, badgers and mink). It is easy to move around so birds can be given new pasture, which minimises the problems of worming and gives pastures time to recover. The pasture fertility improves and poaching is prevented.
To make life very simple we are offering kits which takes away the guesswork and the complications of which energisers for which netting. We can provide all the items as separate purchases too - please put together a want list and we can help you.
Our netting is green and black so is FAR more discrete than most on the market today. Its also taller than others.
The kits incorporate all components required to set up your system plus comprehensive installation and operation instructions.
The standard kit includes
Electric net : 1.22 m [4ft] high DARK GREEN standard mesh netting [except the 25m net which is close mesh net as standard]
Flexible double pronged BLACK tread in posts [15 per each 50m net]
Tread in Gate post
Corner/Anchor guys and net pegs
Links to battery & net
Energiser ~~ [the exact model of energiser depends on the length of netting. They have been chosen for their greatest efficacy for the job required]
Earth stake
1 x warning sign
Comprehensive instructions
150m + kits also include the ‘6 light’ volt meter free of charge.
[the mains kits include an External on/off switch and crocodile cable clips - you need to add the amount of lead out cable you need]
See further down the page for the additional extras you can order.
Which energiser to use?
Mains - this obviously gives you the most reliable constant supply of energy to your netting. The energiser comes with an outdoor switch to enable you to turn it on and off at the netting. The energiser is sited undercover - whereever that is convenient to you. You MUST choose the length of lead out cable you need to go from the energiser to the netting [25m, 50m, 100m]. If you have concerns about children playing in a field with netting then you can arrange to have your unit somewhere convenient so you can switch it on and off from home while they are in the vicinity.
Battery - this gives you most flexibility in location but has the extra workload of maintaining a good strong battery. Its definately worth thinking about having a fence tester with the battery unit to keep a close eye on the power levels. The best battery to use is a leisure on with a high amp hour rating - something around 30 amphours may only last around 3 weeks but one with a rating of 85 can last 6 weeks before needing recharged.
The Solar charger option [for fences from 25m to 150m] gives a constant trickle charge of the battery and through the light months from April to October should maintain a constant charge. Through the winter you will likely have to charge the battery normally.
Solar - the Solar Energiser is more sophisticated than the simple Solar charger. It requires a battery but it also has one of its own. This means that as the battery is fading it will switch to its own internal power source and concentrate on charging the external battery fully. This is reflected in the price but should give you year round remote power supply in light areas. We only have this option available in the 150m powerplus and the 200m and longer nets.
All battery options can be made solar powered by the addition of our Solar Charger to the kit.
There are more items and information below The prices of each kit permutation are here once you have read through this page thoroughly and decided what are the best options for your situation.
. You want to decide:-
Type of energiser - Battery; Main; Solar
Length of netting - 25m, 50m, 100m, 150m, 200m
Power of energiser - Standard or powerplus
Type of netting - Standard or Close mesh
Battery or not; Length of lead out cable; Solar charger
We are delighted to help in any way we can - phone Jill on 01631 720223 or email us with any queries or to pay in person
Other options and features explained
The ‘Standard Power’ energiser is one chosen to power the number of nets required for that kit well (but is not powerful enough for a greater load).
The ‘Power Plus’ option incorporates an energiser with more power which gives out a stronger pulse. This kit enables you to expand in future and to cope with more earthing if your ground is uneven or there is more likelihood of the surrounding vegetation interfering with the fence. There is enough residual power to add extra nets on in the future.
Close mesh net option [double the number of vertical wires to prevent the smaller predators and contain smaller/younger birds]
Lead out cable is used with a mains powered system (or a battery powered system which is kept indoors). The energiser must be located in a weather proof environment and the cable is then used to link the energiser to the net (via an outdoor switch which is included in the mains kit). Part of the same cable is used to link the energiser to the earth stake, which is normally located just outside of where the energiser is mounted. It needs to be in damp ground to be effective.

Electric Fencing 25m kit

Easy to move around a larger paddock
The 25m net has single pronged push in posts. The close mesh is the standard so its a great growers pen.
For more birds as part of moving them around a much larger area - the larger house would be suitable - the Oxford, Windsor and Grosvenor Standard, and the Stafford

A good space for a decent sized laying or breeding flock [up to 50 chickens if moved often enough] in association with something like the Brentford houses or the Ranger units.
Great for setting up a permanent fenced area for a smaller flock reducing the necessity to move it - simply move the house within the space at different times of the year.
Perfect for raising turkeys and geese.
Choose the close mesh netting for your bantams or raising young birds.
More effective than large permanent pens with all the associated disease risks and management problems they have.

The Solar Charger - This comprises a 5 watt solar charger which links on to the battery. It continuously trickle charges the
battery and will considerably expand the re-charging period (possibly to as much as 9 months
between spring to autumns).
12V Deep Cycle Gel Battery [85amp hr 12v] [We can no longer get standard wet acid leisure batteries delivered around the country so can only offer a GEL battery. They are more expensive but very good batteries]. Car batteries do not like the discharge and charging patterns usedin electric fencing but if you can get them really cheap and don't mind more frequent changes then they work okay. The battery we offer should cover you for 6-8 weeks depending on the number of nets
Battery Charger : will charge the 85amp hour battery overnight. So when you need to recharge the battery, you collect it from the fence as you shut your birds in and take it back out fully charged in the morning at letting out time.
More posts may be added to any net to cope with undulating land and net struts can also be added to help keep the net taught.
Additional tread in posts - there are 15 inc luded with each 50m net but if your ground is particularly undulating or you are very exposed or you are making a lot of changes of direction in your pen design you may want to consider adding some more posts to keep a strong and even tension in the netting
Tensioning Struts - If the area is exposed or uneven, tensioning struts help keep the net shape and to minimise net sag between posts (in packs of 10). The close mesh netting is heavier so is more likely to need support on awkward ground.
Fence Testers [to monitor the voltage]. These indicate the pulse voltage and detects earthing and other problems. Voltmeters range from a simple 5 light tester (where lights indicate 5 separate stages of voltage), to a digital volt meter which gives a more accurate measurement. It is highly recommended that you have one of these to maintain your fencing to the highest standard. The 5 light tester is included free with kits of 3 or more nets.
We also have a Fault Finder which is a more complex piece of equipment which points in the direction of earthing problem.
Night Light :- Clips on to the net and flashes at night so you can see whether you have remembered to switch the system on or if you have battery or earthing problems etc. A great reassurance to you - you can simply look out at night to confirm your fence is on and working well.
Individual Nets - to add to an existing fence or energiser
